8 Ways On How To Keep A Geeky Boyfriend (And why they are worth keeping cause #MayForever)

almost geeky 3

You find yourself with all his Battlestar Galactica DVDs and stuck with that life-sized Stormtrooper and hey, posted in your ref calendar is that cosplay event this weekend – yet you simply love all of it just because it’s his. So now that you are ready for that #mayforever, you are looking for ways on how to keep him – for good. That’s why i’m here, I’ll be sharing with you some of the tips I learned from mine. 🙂

  • Communication is (always) key. –  Just like in any relationship you should be able to speak your mind about what, where, why, when and how you like things done in your relationship. Never ask him to read between the lines because chances are he’ll just give you a blank stare hence you will end up frustrated all the time.  Be direct and tell him exactly what you want and exactly what it means.
  • Learn to listen to his interests and relate to it. – When he shows you that Youtube videos about tanks fighting, game reviews, and that tutorial of that new gadget he’s been eyeing on for months now – be genuinely interested. He is opening up to you and treat it as a privilege cause that actually means you have earned his trust. Sometimes, what he shows you are actually quite interesting. You learn something new everyday.
  • Try not to hurt his feelings.  – He can be very sensitive, trust me. Try not to comment on his gaming skills or tell him that ‘you’ve-been-playing-all-day-why-not-try-to-help-around-the-house‘  or simply interjecting on his knowledge about computers. He is usually very passionate so don’t go around bursting his bubble. Remember that his passion for whatever it is he is into actually translates to the way he handles his relationship. Treasure the affection he is giving you cause rest assure that the appreciation he has for you is incomparable. Know that sensitivity equals romantics, don’t all girls want that?
  • Always give him his  needed alone time. – This is actually a healthy process and necessary for any type of relationship to work. Giving him space to finish that game he just bought yesterday will in turn result to him coming with you to the parlor and waits  for 5 hours just to get your hair done. No complaints, whatsoever. It’s a give and take relationship – see it’s very healthy?

almost geeky 4

  • Remind him about intimacy. – He will never forget your special dates  – monthsaries, anniversaries, first kiss, first dates etc. but sometimes you have to wrap your arms around him and remind him that intimacy is  available. It does not necessarily mean that he is uninterested if you don’t get some in a week (if you know what i mean), it’s just that he is too engrossed in that Startrek series he’s been waiting to complete for ages. Once you were able to lure him away from the computer..fireworks that’s what’s next.
  • Celebrate your common ground.– If you like to read Nicholas Sparks novels and he loves his Dungeons and Dragons books, let him sit on the couch and lay your head on his lap while reading together. Thanks to Game of Thrones and Walking dead marathon you have those great date nights. Watching his Macross anime series after you’ve watched  two Ghibli movies makes those long weekends the best. You will be able to share great moments together by doing what each of you likes to do most. It’s a win-win.

almost geeky 2

  • Teach him about life. – You might have nabbed that shy and inexperienced guy out of his comfort zone so do teach him a little about life, and learn together. Go to places you’ve both never been to. Try and go on different adventures like parasailing or do that longest zip-line and climb mountains. You may just simply stroll in a mall and go to hobby shops and surprise him with those model tanks or giant model ships (if you can afford it) or just go to the beach and let time pass you by doing nothing together. Let him know that there is a great big world out there which you both can share as a couple. Cause if you are dating  an ‘almost’ geeky guy, i’m pretty sure you are both in it for the long haul.
  • Lastly, and the most important of all – love him unconditionally as he does you.

#MayForever right? 🙂

Bookwhore Presents: Fangirl

Fangirl Book 2

Fangirl. The book I opened last Dec 2014 and finished by August 2015. Here goes my rating and review.

Ratings at goodreads.com: 4.19* and below is the back blurb:

Cath is a Simon Snow fan.

Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan…

But for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.

Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.

Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words… And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this?

Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories?

And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

My take on the book:

I honestly can’t figure out if I love or hate this book.

‘Eleanor and Park’ touched my heart in many ways. Hence, I picked out this book thinking that Rainbow Rowell might have another gem to share to her readers; don’t get me wrong, ‘Fangirl’ is indeed a gem. What i’ve always loved about Rainbow Rowell’s novels is that she will take you to a world where you would actually believe that all her characters  are real people and Fangirl is no exemption. The protagonist Cath is so real that you can feel all her emotions. Her insecurities over Wren (her twin sister), anger towards her mother who left them when she and her sister were only about 8 years old, her unconditonal love for her bi-polar father, her amazement and open jealousy towards Reagan and  how she fell in love and lust with Levi (Oh my, Levi? he’s so..I have no words..good god how I wished he was real, Cath is so damn lucky).

The only, you may say, complain I have with this book is the ‘fanfiction’ and ‘fangirl-ing’ part, maybe because I can’t quite relate to it? I actually skipped some excerpt from Simon Snow’s (aka Harry Potter loves Draco Malfoy with a touch of Twilight) story on some pages just because I’m excited to read more about what is going to happen to Cath’s life in the next chapter. I know I might have missed some juicy details on the gay love/hate relationship of a wizard/vampire but nah..it did not really caught my attention. FYI, I read across the web that Rainbow Rowell will be writing a book about Simon-Baz love story. It will be her very first fantasy book which is more likely to be a spin-off of ‘Fangirl’.

All in all, ‘Fangirl’ is a refreshing read. It’s a story which will bring you those warm smiles and makes you silently  say “ooh” and “aaaww“. How Cath managed to balance out all that is happening around her by accepting fully who she truly is and by embracing her reality – and still not giving up on her fanfiction – for me is what the book is all about. ‘Fangirl” is a very courageous and inspiring  coming of age story. So for all of you YA novels fans out there, here’s a good read you won’t want to miss. 🙂

So I guess, I loved it more than I hate it, what you think?

Here’s a little something for you to ponder (taken from the book) –

Cath : Just… isn’t giving up allowed sometimes? Isn’t it okay to say, ‘This really hurts, so I’m going to stop trying’?
Dad: It sets a dangerous precedent.
Cath : For avoiding pain?
Dad : For avoiding life.

3. Conversation one evening while he’s playing WOT:

Him: *cranky voice* Ano ba namang tong mouse na to sira na ata! hindi ako gumagalaw!

Me: Tsk, wag ka na nga maglaro nyan nai-stress ka lang eh.

Him: Hindi naman… **wide smile**

Yep, he de-stress and then stresses out on World of Tanks.

HOW TO REALLY KNOW SOMEONE QUESTIONS TAG – VOLUME 2

image31

Want to get to know me just a little bit better? Here goes another round of my answers to ‘How to really know someone questions tag’.

8. Have you ever blown your top? Why?

– A lot of times, it just doesn’t show that much cause I’m pretty good at hiding feelings.

9. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?

– I’d probably be 24 years old haha 🙂 What do you think?

10. You’re having lunch with three people you respect and admire. They all start criticizing a close friend of yours, not knowing she is your friend. The criticism is distasteful and unjustified. What do you do?

– I guess I’d just keep quiet however if f they say something that’s not true about my friend I would definitely correct them.

11.If you could paint a picture of any scenery you’ve seen before, what would you paint?

– A girl and a boy holding hands, leaning by a tree on a hill under a starry sky. I saw this in one of my favorite anime series I’ve watched and this actually reflects most of what I want in a relationship – that magical feeling of contentment and intimacy and being one with nature. Of course, there should be a cat sleeping nearby on the ground. 🙂

12. In the case of prevention of overpopulation, should some people be prohibited from reproducing?

– I think the only solution to overpopulation problem is people needs to be more responsible with their actions – family planning is a must.

13. You discover that because of a mix-up at the hospital, your wonderful one-year-old child is not yours. Would you want to exchange the child to try to correct the mistake?

– Yes I would. It’s the only right thing to do no matter how painful it would be.

14. Have you ever seen a person, an animal, or something else die? How did you feel about it?

– When two of our orange tabby cats died, Mingming and Mok-chan. Both of them became a part of our family and we had this habit of always carrying them like a baby. They would actually pretend they don’t like being carried and cuddled but they actually loved it (i know this for a fact because they would freeze and wag their tails when we cudldle them and would not even go away when we want them to haha).  Mingming is actually Mok-chan’s dad and they both act alike aside from looking exactly the same (‘macho’ is what we call them).

I will never ever forget the day they died. Mingming died of stomach illness while Mok-chan got hit by a car. I felt like they both waited for me to come home before passing away. I brushed Mingming’s fur and told him he can go so that he won’t have to be in pain  anymore and a few minutes after that, he passed away.

The day of Mok-chan’s accident, we were told by our neighbors that he was hit by a car and he took off somewhere. My mom looked for him everywhere but can’t find him. When I got home, I called out to him and he answered. We found him in a very critical state and we knew there really is nothing we can do. We brought him home and I stayed beside him until finally his eyes went blank.

Those were probably some of the worst days of my life. I miss them so much even if it’s been more than 3 years already and it still hurts just remembering it. I loved those two so much that I would probably visit cat heaven when my time comes so that I could carry them like a baby again. *cried a little bit while writing this portion* 🙁

There it goes! Please do look forward to my next batch. For the list of all the questions, visit this tumblr site. Thank you also to this blog series from Corinth.

Feel free to answer the questions above and do leave a comment about it, I would love to hear from you!

Must Visit

TRAVEL PHILIPPINES : Explore Ilocos : Laoag – Vigan – Pagudpud

The date : October 10, 2010 (10/10/10). The place : Pagudpud. The memory- he proposed to be my boyfriend in the sweetest way I could only imagine (well..almost haha) 🙂 I’m kinda reminiscing here so forgive me it’s just because Ilocos has a very special place in both our hearts.

We went to this trip together with some of our closest workmates in Philippine Airlines. Thanks to our PAL trip passes we booked the next flight, plotted our leaves and off we went. We were blessed with a good weather while touring the provinces even if it’s the rainy season. Given that we had only few days to enjoy the trip we all had fun! Lasting memories were made with good friends and the then new Boyfriend <3

Your itinerary will definitely get packed  if you  want to see the ‘major’attractions in a 3D2N trip of Ilocos. Don’t worry, you won’t really mind the long drive to get anywhere in the province because hey, it’s Ilocos! The history are well alive in this place combined with stunning landscapes and crystal blue seas not to mention Bagnet! Allow me to share with you some of the tourist spots we visited.

Our itinerary:

Laoag – Vigan – Pagudpud – Laoag

Day 1:

Laoag, Ilocos Norte

IMG_1919

We took a an afternoon flight on our first day and we arrived at Laoag Internatonal Airport in time for dinner. Our tour guide Kuya Glenn took us to this famous restaurant “La Preciosa”. The first floor of the building is a bakeshop and the restaurant is on the 2nd floor. The food did not disappoint (the boyfriend LOVED their bagnet and he wants to come back for it sometime in the near future) and the price of the food was also very affordable. If ever you find yourself to be in Laoag, please go ahead and have a meal here, for sure you won’t regret it – after all this restaurant has a 4* rating in Trip Advisor.

We really can not go anywhere after dinner so we decided to just call it a day and take some rest as some of us came from work before our flight. So there goes Day 1.

Day 2

Vigan

Baluarte ni Chavit Singson

IMG_5289

‘Ooooh a zoo!’ – the kid inside me screamed when we got to this spot. Governor Chavit Singson’s Baluarte is a home to some friendly wild animals that you can feed and pet. The highlight for me were the tigers – so powerful looking those creatures too bad they needed to be caged.

Calle Crisologo

IMG_1982

A trip to this part of the city will surely take you back in time. This attraction is described in Vigan.ph website as:

The major attraction of Vigan is its mestizo district which is filled with Spanish-style houses that evoke a bygone era when its people lived prosperously because of the Manila-Acapulco maritime trade. For visitors who want to experience being transported back to this period in Philippine Spanish colonial time, a walk or a calesa ride through Vigan’s Calle Crisologo or Mena Crisologo Street is a must. The tour will take visitors more than a couple of hours and will cost around half a thousand pesos. You will be guided through four blocks of cobblestone streets lined with heritage houses of the families of the Filipino-Chinese traders who rose to prominence during that time of vigorous trading in abel cloth, indigo, gold, tobacco and other goods that were transported to Vigan from all over the North.

After this, we had lunch at the Hidden Garden, Lilong and Lilang coffee shop – an eco tourism inspired restaurant. FYI, they served one of the best watermelon shake we ever had 🙂

Bantay Church and Bell tower

IMG_2027

IMG_5421

We visited this small town called Bantay. The famous landmark here is the Bantay Church and Bell Tower. You’ll be amazed at the architectural detail of the church and belfry which would remind us of Spanish architecture.

Laoag, Paoay

Paoay Church

IMG_5474

The church is also known as The Saint Augustine Church and was declared as a UNESCO Heritage Site. This is a good example of a Baroque church and you can’t help but admire it’s architecture especially it’s facade. Your tour in Ilocos would be incomplete if you won’t pay this historical church a visit.

Afterwards we dropped by Marcos Mausoleum and we were told we can’t take any pictures, too bad.

Pagudpud, Ilcoos Norte

Cape Bojeador Lighthouse

IMG_2094
IMG_2081

Haha! Forgive our ‘Teleserye’ pose (i miss this bunch of people! Hi guys! 🙂 ) I fell in love with Cape Bojeador Lighthouse maybe because we caught the sunset here and the view is spectacular and I have this thing with bricks, I don’t know why.

Bangui Wind Farm

IMG_2097

IMG_5537

Boy, these things are HUGE! As per wikipedia, all these turbines “describes a graceful arc reflecting the shoreline of Bangui Bay facing the West Philippine sea”. It’s amazing just thinking how each of these can generate electricity. So proud for having a fascinating site utilizing renewable energy resources to reduce greenhouse effect that causes global warming. *thumbs up*

Dusking sky in the Bangui bay and Bangui windmills ended our jampacked Day 2. 🙂

Day 3

Pagudpud Beach

IMG_2164

Waking up to this view? Yes please. 🙂

Patapat Viaduct, Pagudpud

IMG_5631

IMG_5595

This is known as the 4th longest bridge in the Philippines and also one of the major tourist spot in Ilocos. You would definitely want to stop in the middle of the road and take a jumpshot with this view (just don’t jump off the bridge!).

Bantay Abot Cave

IMG_5705

IMG_2254

IMG_5643

The highlight of our trip as this is where he ‘almost proposed’ to be my boyfriend *kilig* (can’t believe it’s been 5 years already!). Bantay is Ilokano for “mountain” and Abot is “hole” and there’s this rock formation called Timmangtang Rock not very far from Bantay Abot. Timmangtang Rock is said to be part of Bantay Abot Caves. The Timmangtang Rock is the male rock and the Bantay Abot Cave is the female, hence they’re called Lover’s Rock. We took a LOT of photos in Bantay Abot cave as it has such a picturesque view.

Afterwards we went to see the Blue Lagoon also known as Maira-Ira beach. It is a stretch of white sand and the turquoise clear water was so inviting  however the midday sun was so harsh. It’s just past lunchtime so we just decided to take a few photos and have our lunch overlooking the beach. Then we ventured on the long drive back to Laoag for our last stop before hitting the airport.

Fort Ilocandia Resort, Laoag

IMG_5752

Our last stop and this means more PHOTOS! (and brick walls!)

A 3D2N trip to Ilocos is very well worth it. Best to come here with family and friends and enjoy all that Ilocos has to offer – from its rich historical culture, good food and hospitable people. Nevermind the long drive to different provinces – just look forward to all the experiences and memories to be made here. While you’re at it , do look after the cleanliness of these places. We all want to preserve these amazing spots for our children and children’s children right? 🙂

We were not able to experience Paoay Sand Dunes adventure so we will definitely be back! Have you visited Ilocos? What’s your most memorable memory in Ilocos? Do share! 🙂

Postscript:  Should you require a tour of Ilocos and looking to book an affordable package, you may contact Mr. Glenn Tolentino (click on the link).
